PhD degrees for international students are also available in Chinese universities. These programs are suitable for those interested in academia and research & development fields. PhD's are research intensive and very focused in a specific subject of interest or project; you will need to find or be assigned a supervisor professor. Students who have completed a postgraduate degree in China with a good performance have higher chances to be accepted to PhD programs in the same university or be recommended to another one; having previous experience doing research and publishing papers will give you priority over other candidates.

PhDs usually are 3-5 years long, though it highly depends on your research extent and if more time is required to finish it. If you are considering applying to a PhD program, the following are some requirements to be considered and documents to be prepared:

  • Holder of a Master’s degree.
  • Age limit: 35 or 40 years old depending on the university.
  • Provide a very detailed Research Plan.
  • 2 recommendation letters from previous academia professors.
  • If you have done any research and published papers before, providing a copy as reference can add points to your application.

China has heavily invested in promoting research, attracting top talents and creating collaboration networks around the globe. Scholarships for PhD programs are part of this investment, especially in the fields of engineering, science and technology. PhD students will have the chance to share ideas with good researchers both from China and around the world, in modern and well equipped laboratories.
