There are plenty of scholarship opportunities for studying in China. Chinese Government scholarship, Confucius institute scholarships, provincial scholarships, university level scholarships are just some to mention and each one of them have different requirements and application processes. The most popular one is the Chinese Government scholarship since it covers tuition, accommodation and even a monthly stipend; other types also provide full or partial coverage.

The scholarship process differs from type to type as it depends on the administering entity in charge of the approval but generally the ultimate decision is given by the universities as they control their admission recruitment plans. Therefore, it is absolutely recommended to get pre-admitted to a university before applying for your scholarship and in most cases, if you fulfill their requirements, the university itself will recommend you for a grant or guide you in the process.

Scholarships are granted on a merit basis but not always your GPA or grades are the most important factors. Having some knowledge of Chinese mandarin (HSK test), English proficiency tests (IELTS/TOEFL/others), achievement certificates (sports, cultural activities, etc.), hobbies and skills, are all aspects that can mark a difference between you and the rest of the applicants.

Submit your application through UniApply to increase your profile visibility to Chinese university admission officers and thus increasing your chances to being granted a scholarship offer.
